The other day while flipping through Simply Her, I saw a letter submitted by a father.  His words are so heartfelt, especially the part about staying up whole night when the child was having fever. Bravo to this father!

I think teething process is a painful thing to go through, for both the kid and the mother.  I mean, can you imagine a big hard tooth trying to break the once perfect smooth pinky gum? OUCH! And a kid of 2 years have to tolerate the pain of 20 such teeth breaking out the gums. OUCH again. As for the pain of the mother, she might have to endure the sleepless nights, a kid who suddenly became very fussy over the food or dealing with a restless kid.

I myself went through sleepless nights, for a period as long as 1.5 months! Then, I was still very puzzled with Dawn’s changed sleeping patterns.  When the sleepless nights ended, i then realised that Dawn was teething! And she was teething 8 teeth at the same time! Oh My, now I know why she was so difficult during that 1.5 months!

As you can see, this is the teething chart.  Right now, Dawn has all the teeth, 1-4, upper and lower.  The 2 upper first molars are not fully grown yet, but had already made their appearance.

When Dawn was about 5 months old and shown signs of teething, my parents and I bought a few teethers for her. I wasn’t very particular with the types of teethers in the market and just bought anything which was of the right price and shape.  She had 8 very pretty pearly whites (4 upper and 4 lower) for sometime before she started teething for the next 8 teeth (which was the 1.5 months of sleepless nights which I had mentioned). At that time, we gave her the same teethers which she was using initially.  That was then I realised that choosing a teether is a very important decision.

Because she already had 8 front teeth, it was a grave mistake to pass her a teether which contain rubber parts. This is the result of our mistake.

Look at the hole (below the watermark) that was bitten off by Dawn (the purple parts at the both ends are made of rubber kind of material)!  Can you imagine our shock?  I thought that teether is supposed to be safe to bite on. I thought teether has no age limit.  And I was so so wrong!

I had threw away the packaging and thus I could not find out whether the product had actually specified that this teether is for particular age or labeled with some caution. I mean, if there was none, it could be the negligence of the manufacturer. However, I also do not deny that fact that we as parents should also be careful with what we pass to our children.

So parents out there, be wise in choosing your teethers. You can try Luv n Care Round Pur Ice Bite Teether or Soothie Teething Pacifier

I think it’s really the nature of woman to want to be pretty.  It start from a very young age, as young as 1 year old!

Sometime back, Dawn had been seeing my mom using the curlers to curl her hair.  And Dawn, who might have thought that it’s a pretty thing to do, she followed what my mom did too!

And a few days back, I tied her hair successfully for the first time.  Usually she will take off the clips or the rubber bands as soon as I put on her hair.  I managed to tie a little ponytail at the side and I realised that its quite difficult to tie her hair properly because her hair is so soft and thin.

Anyway, she posed when I wanted to take a photo of her!

Did she melt your heart? :D

A somewhat overdue post.  Aiya! It always happened to me. Too Busy! I still have a few very overdue posts!

Dear and me finally have a chance to visit this Dim Sum place – 揾到食 at Sims Avenue.  It’s somewhere near Geylang and the nearest MRT station is Aljunied.  Dear had been to this place a few times already and I had been here once. This is my second visit!

We had the Sugarcane drink and they served all their drinks in those big containers, rather than cups or glasses. It seems like all these drinks were pre-prepared, stored in these containers and left to chill in their freezer.

We ordered 9 dishes, the fried dumpling, cha siew baos, siew mai, har gao, etc etc.

Verdict?

The fried dumplings were very nice.  Crispy and it was hot when served to us. The filling of each dumpling was just nice, not overflowing, but just enough to feel that it is not empty.

We love the yam balls too! They were served hot, and the cha siew inside the yam balls tasted very good.  At first I thought the yam ball was going to be big and filled with a lot of yam, but I was totally wrong.  Too much yam will make the snack sucky and 揾到食 had ensured that the yam is of the right quantity.

The Cha Siew Chee Cheong Fun were somewhat different from what we used to have before in other stalls. The sauce was tasty and it gave me a feeling that it’s the improvised kind of chee cheong fun.  I still prefer the traditional kind though. But I must confessed that the sauce and the chee cheong fun seem to mix very well and they gave a good taste.

The cha siew baos were great!  The filling was sufficient, but I do find the puff alittle thick.  I prefer those bao with very thin layer on the outside and lots of filling inside. :p

I love the har gao!  The prawns were so fresh that I still must eat the last one even though I was very full already. As for the siew mai, I have no comments about them as they tasted very normal to me.  Nothing to “wow” or complain about.

The pork ribs were very good! Both dear and me like the pork ribs very much! The taste is… erm, hard to describe, but they are so fragrant and the meat had absorbed the sauce in the process of steaming. They used alot of garlic and probably it was the reason why they smell so nice.

The chicken feet was a disappointment.  We prefer those where the meat is easily detached from the bones. The meat was alittle too hard to our liking and I will not order this again for my next visit.

The lotus rice is so-so. Even though each mouthful of rice had some taste in them, but I am not quite satisfied with them. There’s a whole chunk of meat and one whole mushroom inside the rice, so its quite worth for the money. But I will also not order these for my next visit, it’s my personal preference lah.

Overall experience was nice.  The food which we ordered was too much and we were both very full. :p

Here’s the address for this place and when you crave for some Dim Sum, try them next time!

I went to Amoy Market for lunch with my colleague today.  There are alot of yummy food in Amoy Market, but it is also a place where it’s crowded during lunch time and need to wait around for tables.

Tried the chicken curry mee today.  There was a queue for this stall, but the aunties and uncle were quite fast in preparing our food. When I was queuing, I realised that this stall was up on Channel U before.

Da-dah! Here’s my chicken curry mee!

It’s not too bad. The spiciness was just right for me.  The mee was chewy, the soup was nice.  However, some of the chicken were not as tender (some are alittle hard) and the curry taste is not strong enough. I still prefer the chicken curry mee from Hong Lim Market! :p

After lunch, one of the colleague who joined us yesterday, bought a box of strawberries for us.  And the strawberries were so big that everyone of us were fascinated about them. They are very sweet too!

Strawberry with a comparison of a fifty-cents coin.

Sometimes kids do things that give us adults a mixture of feelings.  I could be so angry over something which Dawn did but I will start to laugh when she had that funny expression or start bubbling her baby language.

And this is Dawn, tired with playing her toys and wanted to be that toy that is kept in the box.

Dawn in Play Box 1

Mommy, see what I had done!

Dawn in Play Box 2

Yeah~ I am finally that toy!

Dawn in Play Box 3

Mommy, don’t be angry, play ball with me?

Dawn in Play Box 4

Nah..show you my pretty foot ok?
